From the runway to ready-to-wear

Now that fashion week for the Fall 2009 collections has ended, it is a timely opportunity to review the trends and look towards what will be hot in the coming months. After all, runway looks are meant to inspire retail trends. Once other designers and retail buyers see these looks, they take elements from them – one-shoulder, metallics, tapered-leg pants -- these are all ideas that stem from runway looks -- and transform them into prêt-a-porter or ready-to-wear (RTW) pieces that then emerge in department stores.
Read on to see how you can incorporate these trends into your wardrobe.

UK Spring Color Palette

I am a huge fan of discovering what the de riguer styles are in other countries. London, Paris, Milan, Rome, Dubai, Tokyo - all of these are global fashion meccas - and have their own sense of style and certainly a market that follows these fashions.
Flipping through French Vogue or Brazilian Elle is one of my favorite acts in a bookstore. And with that, I love finding new fashion publications or media outlets geared towards fashion in other countries.
One of my new favorites is TimesOnline from London, which promotes fashion news, runway trends and street style in the UK.
And since the Spring Fashion Weeks are wrapping up, everyone is talking about the trends we can expect to see this season going forward.
One undeniable trend we'll see is bold color and big jewels. The TimesOnline is highlighting this Pons Quitana flat which embraces this trend.

But the tweed jacket did disappear from the runways for some years. Now it’s making a strong come back this spring – and this tweed is not the stuffy, itchy tweed some our mother’s generation suffered from. Read more...

Spring trend alert: Bijoux jewelry and baroque accessories

While spring is not yet officially here, a couple of 60+ degree days sure has us jonesing for a color palette synonymous with the season. And of course as soon as the New Year rang in, area boutiques and stores began dressing their windows in frocks that make us yearn for our sun dresses and bright colors. But even though it’s not quite time to bare arms, we can still show our spring pride with a few bold pieces that will quell our spring fever...Read More
