Top Looks of the Week

It should comes as no surprise that during fall fashion kickoff week, there would be so many hot looks gracing red carpets, sidewalks and even Congress. This weeks hottest looks:
While the tension over healthcare lives on, Michelle Obama added a much needed sense of decorum with this pink skirtsuit. Pulled together with a signature broach above the neckline and her look oozes sophistocation. But even more than just her attire, Michelle was simply glowing that night - her hair and make-up were impeccable.
Last night, New York and the world, including Washington, D.C. announced their support for the retail industry with Fashion's Night Out. An evening long event held in retail store across the globe to declare the war on shopping and spending was officially over. Paired with FNO co-collaborater and famed designer Diane Von Furstenburg, Kate Hudson shines in khaki and gold strapless number. Kate sure knows how to give good face!
Kim Kardashian epitomizes sexy/classy in this dark green shirt dress. The ensemble really works because she accessorized it just enough, pairing it with the wide belt, simple black heels and black bag. While this may be one of Kim's more casual looks, she sure knows how to make casual look hot!
Finally for the hottest look of the week, Demi Moore's daughter, Rumer Willis, pulls off an incredible elegant lace pantsuit from Stella McCartney. Wearing just a bra underneath, but only letting it "peep" through, along with her understanded up-do makes this look nothing less than chic and sophistocated!

Here, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and Michelle Obama both wear white sheath dresses with belts. Michelle opting for silver with matching silver strappy sandals, and Carla, too, matching her black belt with her black kitten heels.

Ce Magnifique!

The First Lady of many firsts

Now that the confetti has fallen and been swept up, the Obama victory moves toward fixing our nation. And with this momentous event, we usher in a new First Lady -- Jackie Obama. Ugh, I mean MICHELLE.

Michelle's impeccable fashion choices have been talked about widely in the media. And for good reason - the woman can dress.

She understands her body, her age, her role and exemplifies who she is and where she's going in each style choice that she makes.

But just as we should not expect perfection from our new president, we, too, must extend grace to the First Lady-elect.
This is the first time a woman of color will take the matrimonial throne of the White House. And just as Michelle understands how to dress for her position, as the public, we must understand their rules of style for a woman of her hue.

Many women of color have the luxury of wearing bright, bold colors, because their skin accentuates and accepts deeper tones.

So expect to see bright yellows in the spring time, and bold reds in the winter. She can pull it off, and so she should.

Now many have already criticized her Election Night design choice - some saying it was too busy.

But no one should dare say it was not becoming of a First Lady --we should continue to be open-minded, as we were with our nation's first First Lady of Fashion.

Since this blog is about Washington's style choices and what those choices mean to our lives, as Mrs. Obama continues to make stunning decisions, she will continue to be the subject of many blog entries.

Mrs. Obama, welcome to Washington.

Welcome back, Camelot.
