Prada 2010 Spring Menswear

Charcoal, gunmetal, quicksilver – no matter the modifier, they all describe gradients of grey –the preeminent color of the 2010 spring menswear line from Miucca Prada. While monochromatism is nothing new to designers, there is more than meets the eye to this collection as it stands out for its blunt lines and powerful symbolism. The parade of suits epitomize urbane business, yet does not deny the current global economy. Strong greys may indicate gloom and doom on the surface, but the silver lining, no pun intended, reflects a “down, but not out” attitude.
The designer started off by breaking up suits, pairing blazers and pants in opposing shades of grey, therefore detracting from typical single-color palettes many designers cling to. The collection is further broken up and then unified by pairing the suit pants with v-neck cardigans and front-button sweater vests. The vests were paired with sleeveless collared shirts and grey ties which offers a unique perspective on the male physique –conservatively revealing.

District J'dore: Audrey Hepburn

20 years after her death, Audrey Hepburn remains an international icon of style, grace and beauty. She has long been one of my favorite actresses, so when The English Muse posted these rare photos, I had to help share them with the world.

A proper French woman...

Always wears a scarf!
Michelle Obama, along with Sasha, Malia, her mother and the president visit the Eiffel Tower on Friday. Although she's not French, she celebrates in the custom, by wearing a scarf:

Here, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and Michelle Obama both wear white sheath dresses with belts. Michelle opting for silver with matching silver strappy sandals, and Carla, too, matching her black belt with her black kitten heels.

Ce Magnifique!

DC Business & Fashion Event to Help Disadvantage Women Find "Success in Style"

On Saturday, June 13 at the Hamilton Crowne Plaza Hotel in Washington, D.C. the "Work the Office, Spice the Interview, Impress the Client" business and fashion event will take place from 6pm - 9pm. Proceeds from the event will go to Success in Style, a D.C. nonprofit who provides free, stylish business attire to low-income and disadvantaged area women to help give them the poise and confidence needed to land a great job and feel good about themselves.
The event will highlight how business attire can and should be fashionable, attendees will learn business fashion etiquette and will feature types to create a chic, professional wardrobe.
As I've written about before, Washington is not known for its style. Many of us have "serious" jobs and fall into the basic black work uniform - or worse yet, don't really take the time to care about putting together a great outfit.
It's not just about looking good. Great personal style translates into all areas of our lives, from our careers, where we want to impress our bosses and clients, to being respected among our peers, and launching the next step in our careers.
This event will address tips on how to dress for varied career scenarios and will feature local designers who will showcase workplace fashions.
Come for the fashion, fun, swag bags and most importantly to help local women define their careers one outfit at a time!

District J'dore: Michelle Obama

It's no secret that I have an open admiration for the first lady and her impeccable fashion choices. I love the controversy she stirs by simply not wearing sleeves. Her style choices directly reflect who she is and what she stands for - and after all, isn't that what great personal style should do?
For the next four years, we get to see style, grace, elegance, and yes a flair for colors, prints and bare limbs splash across national headlines in all the major media outlets. I am enjoying every moment of it.
This week, which I imagine will the first of many weeks, I adore Michelle Obama's District Couture.

Piperlime to sell clothing

I've written several times about Piperlime, the online shoe retailer owned by Gap, Inc. (who also owns Banana Republic and Old Navy). They have a wonderful selection of shoes, from the inexpensive to high-end and many in between. Now the shoe retailer is adding a clothes - namely jeans - to its repertoire.
Women's Wear Daily is reporting that in August, Piperlime will start its expansion into clothing by offering 14 brands on jeans including:AG Adriano Goldschmied, Rich & Skinny, Joe’s Jeans, Work Custom Jeans and Seven for All Mankind.
